We live in an age of InfoWhelm, where unimaginable amounts of information are available. It has got to the point where no one can be an expert anymore. If our students are going to function in an age of InfoWhelm, they need to become informationally fluent.
What does it mean to be “informationally fluent”? Why is it essential for today’s students to distinguish fact from opinion, bias, misinformation, fiction, and fake news. How can we examine text, images, video, and other forms of data for underlying meaning and bias? How do we verify information that we suspect might be wrong or inaccurate?
These questions and more will be addressed by Ian in his forthcoming presentation.
