Kindergarten 2027
We are excited to welcome our future learners for Kindergarten 2027. Starting school is a significant milestone for children and their families. Our Kindergarten program is designed to ensure every child feels safe, confident and ready to learn.
Kindergarten at Avalon Public School
Our caring and experienced teachers create a supportive environment where children are encouraged to explore, ask questions and develop a love of learning. Through a balanced program, students build important foundations in literacy, numeracy, social skills and independence.
We work closely with families and the local preschools to support a smooth transition to school. Our transition program helps children become familiar with the school environment, meet some of our teachers and begin building friendships before their first day.
At our school, we believe that every child is unique and capable. Our Kindergarten program focuses on nurturing curiosity, creativity, resilience and a strong sense of belonging.

What to Expect in Kindergarten
Learning and Development
Kindergarten teachers follow the NSW curriculum and support children in developing foundational skills in literacy, numeracy, creative arts, history, geography, health and physical activity and science and technology. Play-based learning is also an important part of the program, helping children develop their social, emotional and academic skills.
Daily Routines
Students gradually learn everyday school routines such as arriving in the morning, having snack and lunch breaks, lining up, using bubblers and moving safely around the school. Teachers support children as they become familiar with these routines and practising them at home can help build confidence.
Best Start Assessment
Around week 3 or 4 of term 1, all Kindergarten students participate in the Best Start Assessment. This is a relaxed, one-on-one activity that helps teachers understand your child’s early literacy and numeracy skills. It is not a test and children do not need to prepare for it.
